Who do you look up to most, and why?

Oprah Winfrey has been and continues to be a woman of power that I admire and respect. During the 7th grade, I was given the assignment to write about someone I admired. I remember seeking to find a black woman in what I deemed a position of influence - not born with money or a famous name - that accomplished her dreams with a passion for changing the world. I researched Oprah's childhood and read about the many obstacles she faced to build what would now become a multi-billion dollar empire. Her story inspired me, a teenage girl growing up in a segregated Dayton, Ohio, and living in the projects, that no matter where your journey begins with determination and drive you can accomplish anything you desire. It may not be a smooth journey and take the path you planned, but it will be worth it in the end. Never limit yourself or your capabilities.

If you could travel anywhere in the world right now, where would you go? What would you do there?

Right now in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, I desire to travel anywhere outside of the US. My favorite country to travel to is Italy. I would love to be in a simple villa overlooking the Amalfi Coast, sipping some vino with the smell of fresh lemons surrounding us.

What's your favorite book and why?

I used to be an avid reader before college, now I only prefer to read short (technical) papers or articles. I find many books can be summarized in 100pgs or less but more pages are added to sell them, giving the illusion there is more to say. I know what you're thinking...how are you an engineer with Oprah as someone you admire and you do not like to read. :)

What does "paying it forward" mean to you?

Paying it forward to me means dedicating your time and resources to sharing your talent and teachings with someone, providing them new opportunities and a framework to continue the work forward for the next person.
