Skyler Ferguson, Lorain High School Class of 2019, Eastern Michigan University

Skyler Ferguson is a 2019 graduate of Lorain High School. She earned an academic scholarship to attend Eastern Michigan University where she will study Communications. Skyler is committed to using her voice to stand up for others, as well as empower them to stand up for themselves. Skyler’s community service activities include Special Olympic Buddy, Camp Invention Counselor, Student Advocate (advocating for students to take college classes during high school), and Peer editor. The sky is the limit for Skyler as she soars to the next level of her academic career!

Phyllicia Weatherspoon, Lorain High School Class of 2018, Cuyahoga Community College

Phyllicia Weatherspoon is a scholar of Lorain High School’s class of 2018. She is a leader in the classroom and community. Her leadership and membership activities include the Titan girls’ basketball team, President of the JOG Program, Key Club, Boys and Girls Club, and Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church. She is the proud daughter of Phil and Andrean Weatherspoon. She will pursue her higher education at Cuyahoga Community College and major in Hospitality Management. She was awarded an athletic scholarship and will continue her love of basketball as a member of the women’s basketball team. She has an interest in paying it forward by using her knowledge o improve literacy among our nation’s youth.

Pablo Oquendo II, Lorain High School Class of 2021, Central State University

Pablo Oquendo II will be attending Central State University to major in Computer Science and minor in Music Technology and Recording. Pablo is focused on achieving his career goal to become an accomplished professional violinist in an orchestra and compose music for various artists in various genres. Pablo aspires to perform solo repertoire that ranges from classical, contemporary, jazz, and more. He understands the positive power of using music to uplift others. Pablo expressed, "I want to use my skills and experiences to educate people and to influence others to follow their passions no matter how difficult their roads may be." His career interests also expand beyond music. Pablo desires to open a karate dojo to show kids like him how to defend themselves physically and mentally against any type of adversity. Pablo also wants to use technology alongside karate and music to entertain, educate, and inspire the generation that follows.
